INGREDIENTS

  • 4-6 medium sizes Bosc pears

  • 2 cups sugar

  • 2 cups favorite red wine (good with merlot, cabernet sauvignon or red blend)

  • Vanilla extract

  • Cloves

  • Serve with vanilla ice cream or mascarpone cheese

DIRECTIONS

  1. Place all ingredients, except pears, in saucepan or iron skillet.

  2. Bring to a simmer so the sugar will dissolve.

  3. Light Pit Barrel® according to instructions.

  4. Peel the pears.

  5. Slice pears and place in in the liquid mix in an oven safe dish. Place this dish in your Pit Barrel® and cook for 20 min (turn or stir every 5 min).

  6. Remove the pears from Pit Barrel® and place on a plate.

  7. Heat the remaining liquid in a saucepan and bring it to a simmer. Simmer for a few minutes until the liquid thickens up into a syrup.

  8. Take off heat when reached the desired syrup consistency and brush the pear slices with the syrup. Serve with vanilla ice cream or mascarpone cheese.
